Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium was introduced by the Government in 2011/12. It provides additional funding to help schools ‘close the gap’ between children who are vulnerable to underachievement and all other children at the school.

In 2018/19 schools were given £1,320 for each child who had been registered for Free School Meals in the last six years; or £2,300 for children in the care of (or previously in the care of) the local authority (CLA). This is because there is lots of evidence that many of these children underachieve. In addition, Service Child Premium of £300 per pupil has also been allocated to children with parents in the armed services in recognition of the particular challenges that they face.

We carefully base our spending on the needs of our children. We target, where necessary, Pupil Premium to close gaps in attainment. We target our spending on a range of strategies to help improve learning, attendance or even enrichment. Each strategy is employed to ‘remove the barriers to learning’ and raise attainment and improve progress whilst measuring the positive impact on each child.

We have included a breakdown summary regarding how we use our total Pupil Premium income in the documents below./docs/Pupil_Premium_Strategy_review_Autumn_2023.docx
